Things to Do in Asheville – HATCH Fashion Runway Show

| Comments Off on Things to Do in Asheville – HATCH Fashion Runway Show

The HATCH Fashion Show is being hosted by the Grove Arcade on Saturday, April 16, 2011. The show will be held at the North End of the Arcade (the side closest to the Civic Center) from 4 until 5 pm.

What is the HATCH? According to their website, “HATCH is a biannual four-day experience that energizes creative professionals and thought leaders who are serious about transforming their ideas and talents into bold action, while inspiring others to do the same.”

Yes, we here are Mountain Made know all about passion and bold action – all 150 of our regional artisans are wonderfully passionate people. But we secretly admit what we like most about the HATCH experience is the FASHION.

HATCH fashion director, Sonia Hendrix said in an interview in Sophie magazine, the things that inspired her to first get involved in the fashion industry was “Endless weekends spent socializing in downtown Asheville…I loved getting dressed in edgy outfits, mingling with fashion mavens and meeting new people.

Somewhere along the line I became inspired by all my experiences and realized I wanted to contribute to making the Asheville fashion scene as well known as the arts and music scene.”

And we know what she means! Asheville is home to some of the most eclectic and avant garde fashionistas and gurus in the Southeast. The city has had a long history of welcoming many diverse cultures and almost any fashion.

HATCH Fashion Show

For example Asheville has been a long standing host to Ebony Fashion Show.

This biannual national show is sponsored by Ebony Magazine and was known for its colorful models, flirty catwalks and over-the-top haute couture. Unfortunately due to economics the show appears to be on hiatus.

But the HATCH fashion show, while coming from a completely different focal point is also making Asheville famous for its devotion to our regional fashion designers, stylists, makeup artists and jewelers.

And speaking of jewelry while watching the show, don’t forget to drop by the Mountain Made and check out newest selections of wonderful jeweled art pieces and fashion jewelry.
