Silverware Art by Southern Folk Artist Rob Seven
Rob Seven began his 21 year journey into the wonderful world of Southern folk art from the hot and dusty plant floor of a North Carolina cotton mill.
Until then, Rob says that he had made “a lot of furniture and a little bit of music.” While he has always created things with his hands, he turned to his art full time in 1991 after several economic and personal setbacks.
It was then that he started trying to make a full time living from his silverware assemblages and sculptures after being laid off from two consecutive jobs. He says “art has transformed my life and gave me back my soul, and I try to express and celebrate this transformation in all that I do”.
His eye-catching artwork has become a more than just a creative and therapeutic outlet – it is a true expression of what modern Southern folk art work can become. Each of his art pieces are made from vintage silverware and other recycled materials.
As if you may notice from the images below that Rob’s work is full of both whimsy and creativity. We would like for you to discover Rob’s work for yourself – come by the Wednesday s and Thursday s (2PM-6PM) this month. And we think you’re going to enjoy watching and meeting with Rob, live and in-person!
