The Return of Asheville Wood Artist Brian Monteleone

We are proud to showcase featured artist of the month, wood carver Brian Monteleone during the July Art Walk – Friday July 5th – from 5:00-8:00PM.

Light refreshments will be served and if you come by, we recommend that you have your dancing shoes on since the Fox Chase Jazz Band will be providing the evening’s live music.

As for Brian Monteleone, his love of wood sculpting started 20 years ago, when he visited family’s cabin in the Hudson Valley while on vacation and whittled away the time carving and sculpting a life-size statue with a chain-saw!We are proud to report the Brian’s work has vastly improved from those very rough beginnings.  From a recent interview as the Featured Artist for July in The Laurel of Asheville,

“There is often a conflicting rush of eager anticipation and gnawing anxiety when one is about to leap into the unknown.

Brian Monteleone is experiencing all that and more this summer as he moves his artistic career into a full-time venture. But he’s an independent sort, so his decision is not all that unusual…moving to Asheville in 2000 after passing through briefly during a road trip.”

Brian says, “I started a contracting business, which eventually led to property management and ‘flipping’ houses.” In 2003, he took a nine-month hiatus from work to backpack through Italy At ever stop, he would spend days with his sketchpad drawing beautifully intricate pen-and-ink renderings of the amazing array of architecture.”

And it was this love of both wood carving and architecture that has lead to his decision to move from contractor to full-time artist.demo-cu
